A giant steel sculpture of a DNA strand marks the
entrance to the Wonders of Life pavilion, a 100,000-square-foot golden dome that houses
exhibits and attractions about the human body. In addition to a troupe of actors and
comedians, the AnaComical Players, there are several large attractions within this
pavilion:
Body Wars: One of the few thrill rides in Epcot (its first), Body Wars is
a simulated journey through the human body. The premise: a scientist is miniaturized and
injected into a patient's body to study a splinter but instead becomes sucked into the
circulatory system. Guests are "miniaturized" and sent in to rescue her as she
courses throughout the body. There's a minimum-age requirement (3) to ride this bumpy
attraction, and there are some health restrictions. 5 minutes.
The Cranium Command show: features the amusing adventures of Cranium
Command, a corps of Brain Pilots who have been trained to work the body's functions. The
characters Cranium Command are witty and entertaining and many famous faces appear as
various "organs." 25 minutes, including preshow.
The Making of Me: This film, though geared toward youngsters, garnered a
lot of controversy when it first opened as it frankly discusses sex and reproduction and
shows images of the stages of pregnancy. But, for the most part, guests have agreed that
the subject has been tastefully presented. The story is told in a lighthearted and
informational manner and humorously tackles these sensitive issues. 14 minutes.
Fitness Fairground: This area of the pavilion is dedicated to healthy
living -- exercising, eating right and staying in shape. Fitness tests, monitoring
equipment, information on the latest breakthroughs in medicine and a cafe serving
healthful snacks are located here.
DINING: The
pure and simple counter-service restaurant that serves low-fat waffles, sandwiches, salads
and yogurt.
